1965 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe

Description:

1965 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe

The third year of the second generation Corvette brought on some changes as Chevy worked to refine the quintessential American sports car without losing a growing following. To that end, the hood was smoothed out, a trio of working vents on the fender replaced non functioning vents, new wheel covers and rocker panel trim, and minor interior trim updates. There were some new power options and 4 wheel disc brakes were added in 1965 and nearly 60 years later, that's an idea that has stuck!

For consignment, a 1965 Chevrolet Corvette coupe. This car has gone under the knife in the past year with the engine, brakes, transmission, suspension and exhaust all receiving upgrades having less than 300 consignor stated miles. Everyone has their favorite team and if you're team convertible, that's fair. But the C2 coupes have their fan base too and it's hard to argue with the incredible, voluptuous shape of a 1965 coupe. The recent investment into this beauty makes it a turnkey runner that is ready to be your partner in crime, if that crime is owning a classic Corvette.

Exterior
Our car is covered in Glen Green, a color we rarely see at the mall, but turns out to have been the second most common color Corvette in 1965 behind Nassau Blue. 94 more Corvettes were Glen Green than Rally Red! The hidden headlights flank the stinger, the bullet shaped bulge on the hood that combined with the raised points of the fenders, is indeed shark-like. The door frames cut into the sculpted roof fitting tight like a clamshell, and wide hips raise to peaks like raised dorsal fins concluding in a sharp tail housing the world renowned dual tail lights. The rear window is an arched piece of glass that flows into a glorious boat tail, a study in geometric artistry and the subject of endless photo shoots. Metalwork presents well including the bumpers, window trim, and door handles. 17-inch Torque Thrust wheels look fantastic in silver rimmed gray and they're wearing tires that are less than three years old. Okay, enough fawning, let's report on some imperfections. There are numerous touched up chips, some rough surfaces, scuffs, scratches, and a bubble or two. Most of these are small and do not divert from the overall quality.

Interior
Tidy black door panels in standard Corvette layout here lead to green vinyl bucket seats with headrests and green seat belts. They appear to be in great condition with firm padding and no wear observed. A lighter green loop style carpet covers the car area which houses a pair of speakers for the vertically mounted AM/FM radio in the center stack. A 3 spoke leather wrapped steering wheel offers itself to the driver and our attention is drawn to the dual arches of the dash. Under the driver's arch, the standard gauge package is in beautiful condition and backed by texturized black plastic. The passenger's archway houses the glove box and between the arches flows the center stack like a waterfall, housing a large clock, the radio, and various silver knobs. Wrap your hands around the ball topped shifter and use your thumb to engage, right there on the center console. That avocado colored carpet covers the floors in front as well and green carpeted mats help protect it while the black headliner is in decent condition.

Drivetrain
Bring that hood forward and find an immaculate engine bay with lots of polished metal underneath, including the Hooker Competition Headers which vent the 350ci V8, a Blueprint crate engine with aluminum heads and an Edelbrock AVS 650cfm 4-barrel carburetor. It's been dyno rated at 374 horsepower. A Powerglide 2-speed automatic transmission sends power to the rear wheels where 3.36 gears with Positraction are found. And for the first time in Corvette history, power disc brakes are found on the '65.

Undercarriage
Very, very clean underneath with no sign of dirt nor surface rust. The new dual exhaust comes off of the shiny headers and meets in the middle at an X junction, then splits again to find FlowMaster mufflers before exiting via chrome tips through the lower body panel of the rear. Chef's kiss! All of the wheel and suspension parts are spotless. The front has coil springs and the rear is a bit more interesting. It has full independent suspension with a frame anchored differential unit. The position of each wheel is established by three links; tubular axle drive shafts, transverse strut rods, and torque control arms. There's also a transverse leaf spring. We note a few drops of oil on the pan and flywheel cover.

Drive-Ability
It feels a bit like driving royalty and although we would never call it "British Racing Green" there's some grandeur associated with dark green, inside and out. Meanwhile, as a car that has received a lot of attention to detail over the past year, it runs well, sounds amazing, stops on a dime, and oh yeah, goes like stink! All functions work as intended.

There is no time like the present to pick up the car of your dreams. And if a C2 Sting Ray is not on your wishlist, you wouldn't have made it this far in our diatribe. Here's a well sorted and clean example in an interesting color and sporting some new big ticket items that you're not going to have to worry about. We suggest you call in 3...2....
