2000 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible
The Corvette crossed flag logo originally started out by using an American Flag, crossed with a checkered flag. Federal law prohibits the use of the flag in any advertising, so they had to come up with another flag. Chevrolet being of French origin, they decided to use the French symbol for peace, the Fleur-de-lis, with the checkered flag. Over the years it has gone through many iterations, but the basic principles still exist.
For consignment, a C5 Corvette with an LS1 engine in excellent condition with title verified low 15,098 actual miles just inspected and needing nothing. A sought-after exterior color of Dark Bowling Green, 1 of 1,663 Corvettes produced in this color, (777 of which are convertibles), with a complimenting tan canvas convertible top and a powerful LS engine under the hood add up to rarity and fun with your right foot. A beautiful example that is all original and a 1 owner skate that has been fastidiously cared for and with a little bit of clean up is ready for full on NCRS judging.
Exterior
Bathed in Dark Bowling Green all panels are straight and true, and the gaps are good, as expected for fiberglass. A few scuffs are showing on the V-pointed neoprene nose as well as at the base of the driver's door. A tan convertible top floats up and down with ease and gives you the option of 2 cars in one. This top presents with some light soiling and a crystal clear glass rear window. We note a much more rounded design, almost bulbous for this generation, with indented side panels with an air intake in the front quarters emulating the fender coves of yore. 17 and 18-inch standard polished aluminum wheels are all around wrapped in staggered width high performance radials. Out back are 4 deeply inset tail lights and a sweet sounding chromed exhaust pipes exit center stage in the rear. A little bling added on are the Corvette logoed brake calipers.
Interior
Utilizing stunning tan leather, curvaceous buckets are form fitted to the driver and passenger and sit in front of a black dash which is showing the same undulating curvature, all the while housing key analog but white backlit instrumentation. A digital odometer reads 15,098 miles, which are original, putting this car in low mileage clocked territory. Other features seen are an AM/FM/CD player with a 12-disc changer in the back trunk area, power windows, power locks, dual zone climate control, an active handling mode with real time dampening button, and a heads-up display. Deep thick pile tan carpeting with color keyed mats are in which floods the floors and the rear storage area that holds the top when retracted. The door panels are not unlike the remainder of the interior with black molded uppers and tan vinyl lowers. A very nice interior presentation...take a bow!
Drivetrain
An electronic fuel injected 5.7 Liter LS1 V8 is attached to Tremec T56 6-speed manual transmission. Fuel is delivered by electronic injection and way back is a 2.73 rear axle. All very clean and very much like new under this hood.
Undercarriage
I could use the word showroom here and for an undercarriage even with low miles one sees some signs of usage, however this undercarriage is pristine. Independent suspension with transverse leaf springs and power disc brakes are seen all around. Plenty of ground effects aero panels make up the smooth over undercarriage, peppered with cast aluminum suspension parts.
Drive-Ability
A good runner, great handling and top down experience was just perfect. All is working on the functionality front.
A low, low mileage well cared for and maintained C5 that runs like a clock is in overall very nice condition and performs as expected. This example is highly optioned and with 350hp for 2000, the Corvette was making a comeback from the emissions regulation years, and this one is a rare Dark Bowling Green shining example
