1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Hardtop

Description:

1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Hardtop

Regular Production Option, (RPO), is a three digit standardized code used by General Motors to designate vehicle options and modifications. Very few of these codes end up in the actual name of a car, but there are some exceptions and Z28 is the most notable, indicating Special Performance Package. Corvette's Z06 is another RPO that's become part of the common name of the performance version, and L78, slightly more obscure, represents a particular big block. Z71 on the side of a modern Chevy truck is an RPO and translates to Truck Sports Package.

For consignment, a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 hardtop showing 383 miles which are not actual. This is a built to the hilt Camaro with an engine fitted with the best of the best components, and the supporting systems including fuel delivery, suspension, transmission, and axle are all top notch. And it's all aboard a well optioned car that includes X33, (Z28), and Z22, (Rally Sport pkg). The car has multiple show wins.

Exterior
Immediately striking in Dusk Blue metallic paint with contrasting painted white stripes, factory cowl hood, and yes, the forever cool RS headlight covers, it takes the brain about a second to catch up the eyes and realize this is one sharp Camaro. Other organs soon follow, your heart might speed up as you note the chrome accents that include the epic rear quarter faux louvers, wheel well moldings, 302 emblems and factory tinted glass, (code A01). Get closer, and the muscle of your right foot starts twitching. Front and rear spoilers add an element of race readiness and 15-inch polished American Racing Torque Thrust wheels with staggered size tires bring it across the finish line with a slightly raked profile. Your fingers form around an imaginary pen and you're ready to sign on the dotted line. But you haven't seen the inside yet...or heard about the incredible engine build! But you're content with the fact we could not find any exterior imperfections on this Z. Just give us a few more minutes...

Interior
Trim code 711 is on hand as standard black and starts with the neatly appointed door panels, trimmed with polished highlights and looking tidy and clean. The bucket seats take the door rib pattern and apply it to the inserts and then add it to the back bench and all of it looks virtually unused other than a slight hiccup in the piping on the rear back. Faux woodgrain dresses up the cockpit starting with the steering wheel then just under the instrument cluster on the mid dash. That cluster includes a 140 mph speedometer and a 6500 rpm tachometer. There's an AM/FM radio internally modified to solid state and connected to upgraded front and rear speakers. Of course, the iconic gauge package in the center console is present, four square readouts essential for this hi po bowtie. The shifter housing and the Hurst unit itself are in fantastic condition, as is the black carpet below and headliner above. The clean trunk is lined with a vinyl mat and holds a covered spare.

Drivetrain
Pull up a chair, we've got a lot to unpack. This show worthy car has a show worthy engine bay, and its cleanliness is matched by its potency. Here we have a 454ci V8 that started as a 427 L88 and has been stroked. Inside, we have a balanced Howards steel crank, Manley Sportsman rods, TRW 12.5-1 power forged pistons, and an Isky RR645 solid roller cam. But wait, there's more! It has D-port aluminum heads, has been Stage 2 ported, includes Crane roller rockers, Manley valves, and double valve springs. A Holley 850cfm double pumper carburetor sits atop an Edelbrock air gap intake manifold. The Tremec 3550 5-speed manual transmission sends power to the Moser 12 bolt rear with 4.11 gears and 31 spline axles. This all adds up to 593 horsepower according to our consignor. Power brakes are configured as front disc and rear drum.

Undercarriage
Clean city underneath and the exhaust is a work of art. It starts with Hooker Super Comp headers and leads to 3.5 inch pipes running through an X-pipe, then FlowMaster race mufflers, dumping inconspicuously in the back. Let's not forget about the electric cutouts controlled with a switch. Suspension upgrades include QAI front springs, CPP front controls arms and sway bar, QAI adjustable rear shocks, leaf springs in back with Caltrac bars, and it's all as clean as can be.

Drive-Ability
No surprises here as this stout car delivers an error free test, delivering substantial power, a great sound, and the confidence to know you could outgun most muscle cars on the track. All functions onboard operate as they should on this straight shootin' Camaro. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

This pretty car is a collector grade quality, fantastically clean, well built, and retaining all of its factory charm inside and out. Show winner, garage queen, Main Street cruiser. Whatever your heart and mind decide to do with it, four out of five of your senses will be forever satisfied. Register your interest early on this fine '69.
