1965 Ford Mustang

Description:

This 1965 Ford T5 is a German-market Mustang that was imported into the US and then built into a drag car over 10 years spanning previous and current ownership. It is powered by a Roush Yates 358ci NASCAR-style V8 that was overhauled and installed following the seller's acquisition of the car in 2018. Equipment includes a Holley Sniper dual quad electronic fuel injection system, a Weiand tunnel ram intake manifold, an MSD electronic ignition, and a Flowmaster 3 dual exhaust system as well as four-wheel disc brakes, 15 Weld wheels, a spooled rear end, and a three-speed automatic transmission with a manual valve body. The body is finished in red with white stripes and rides on a custom tubular steel chassis fitted with a roll cage, rack-and-pinion steering, independent suspension, adjustable coilovers, and wheelie bars. Interior features include a B&M shifter, AutoGage instruments, and red vinyl bucket seats with four-point safety harnesses. This modified Mustang is now offered with a book of refurbishment photos, a Sniper EFI handheld controller, parts literature, engine specifications, dynamometer test results, and a clean Pennsylvania title in the seller's name. The body is finished in Rangoon Red with white over-the-top and rocker stripes, and it rides on a custom tubular steel chassis fabricated by Woolford Brothers of Glen Burnie, Maryland. A hole in the hood accommodates the induction assembly, and the rear fender wells have been tubbed. Additional exterior features include a front tow ring, a PGW glass windshield, air extractor vents, quarter-panel side scoops, sequential taillights, and a chrome rear bumper. Polished Weld Prostar wheels with G.T.350 center caps are mounted with 26-7.50-15 front and 29-18.50-15 rear Mickey Thompson Sportsman Pro tires. The car is equipped with rack-and-pinion steering, four-wheel disc brakes, independent front suspension, a solid rear axle with a four-link setup, and adjustable coilovers all around. Sprung wheelie bars are mounted at the rear. The cabin features bolstered bucket seats upholstered in red vinyl with pleated white vinyl door panels and color-coordinated carpeting overlaid with branded black rubber mats. The interior is surrounded by a roll cage and equipped with Pyrotect four-point latch-and-link harnesses, a B&M Pro Bandit gated shifter, a fire extinguisher, and a nitrous bottle. Dual batteries and a 10-gallon fuel cell are located in the trunk. The Mark Williams steering wheel fronts an aluminum instrument panel housing a 160-mph AutoMeter Pro-Comp speedometer and matching gauges for fuel level, fuel pressure, oil temperature, oil pressure, coolant temperature, vacuum, transmission temperature, voltage, and amperage. A programmable AutoMeter Sport-Comp Monster tachometer with a shift light and a 7k-rpm redline is mounted atop the dash, and a pair of AutoMeter Pro-Lite warning lamps with blue and red night covers are connected to the steering column. The five-digit odometer shows 202 miles, approximately 60 of which were added under current ownership. The 358ci Nationwide V8 was initially built by Roush Yates and was overhauled at Eatmon Racing Engines of Wilson, North Carolina, in February 2019. The engine is based on a Ford R451 dry-sump racing block and features a programmable Holley Sniper dual quad electronic fuel injection system, a Weiand 2-4 tunnel ram intake manifold, and a gasser-style scoop. Oil squirters are machined into the lower mounting bosses of the Eatmon valve covers and they are fed by a Barnes five-stage dry-sump pump. The engine is also equipped with:
CNC-ported Yates C3 cylinder heads
Del West titanium valves
PAC valve springs and titanium retainers
Comp Cams solid roller camshaft
Jesel rocker arm assemblies
Crower roller lifters
Mahle 11.7:1 inverted dome pistons
Lentz connecting rods
Bryant Racing eight-counterweight crankshaft
Clevite rod and main bearings
MSD Pro Billet distributor and 6AL ignition module
Electric fan
Custom stainless-steel oil pan
Long-tube exhaust headers
Flowmaster 3 dual exhaust system
A nitrous fogger system is also installed, though the seller states that it has not been used. Results of a dynamometer test showing maximum outputs of 790.5 horsepower and 539.5 lb-ft of torque can be viewed in the gallery. The car is equipped with a race-prepped C4 three-speed automatic transmission with a manual valve body and a Strange Engineering rear end with 35-spline axles, a spool, and 5.13:1 gearing. The car is accompanied by a book of refurbishment photos, a Sniper EFI handheld controller, parts literature, engine specifications, and the results of a dynamometer test.
