Beautiful 1953 Mercury Monterey Sedan presents as original from the factory with a few mechanical and interior upgrades.
Mechanical - The original flathead V-8 runs very well. Ignition has been upgraded to electronic providing for smooth idling and acceleration. Two new generation Flathead water pumps have been installed eliminating any overheating issues when cruising, parading or driving from town to town. A new wiring harness was installed for a clean look and elimination of electrical issues. All new belts and hoses are present under the hood providing a clean, attractive presentation of the famed Flathead V8 engine.
Chassis - The drivability of the car was improved with the addition of disc brakes on the front, with original drum brakes on the rear. The master cylinder was rebuilt and new brake lines were installed. A new gas tank was installed for clean and consistent delivery of fuel upon demand.
Body - The Mercury was repainted in the original Banff Blue color 8 years ago and shows very well today. The seller states there are no issues with rust and the body presents very straight. The original chrome and brightwork shows well.
Interior - The interior of the car is enhanced with a new carpet kit front and back. In addition, new period correct seat covers were sourced and installed to keep the Mercury as close to original as possible. All 4 Door panels are original to the car, attesting to how well this car fared over the past 70 years! The headliner and wind lace is original to the car, with new headliner material and wind lace available for installation by the new owner. All dash components are reported by the seller to work.
The owner reports the car runs and drives well. The overall condition of the car, the sound engine and transmission and upgrade to the brakes provides confidence to drive and enjoy this car.
