The SL or ""Sport-Leight"" (light) by Mercedes Benz is a grand touring sports car that has been being built since 1954, however the original SL was a race car built for Grand Prix racing in 1952 with no intentions of developing a street version. That all changed when US importer Max Hoffman suggested a street version....Much like the Porsche Speedster that we can thank Hoffman for. These SL's have to be some of the most recognizable cars in the world. When they are first sold they are a status symbol for the wealthy....In fact, in 1987 when this car was sold it sold for a staggering almost $60,000.00 which in todays market means $150,000.00. We sold this last year for one of our very good clients, at that time, the car came out of long-term ownership with stellar care. This car was sold to a summer local family who did not use it nearly as much as they hoped and thought it would be better off in someone else's hands. They did put a brand new soft top on the car as well. The only known body flaws are on the rear deck lid, as the first timers, had a little issue removing the hard-top but could be taken care of with a PDR company. This car retains its original window sticker, owners manuals, service receipts and clean Carfax. This SL starts, idles and goes down the road nicely with no funky smells or rattles, the tires are good, battery is good and so are the brakes. There are no dummy lights on the dash and it is ready to go. These low mileage final years W107 cars are getting hard to find and becoming even more pricier.
