Clean custom 55 Chevy 2-door post sedan with great upgrades. Full Corvette C4 independent suspension with 4-wheel power disc brakes. 350/6-speed manual. Beautiful custom interior. A cool cruiser with impressive performance!
This bright orange and pearl white shoebox Chevy was a long-term project that was driven as it was being built, so its built for the road. Theres some very nice bodywork that obviously required a pretty substantial investment in time and money, and we cant argue with the finished product. Body alignment is quite good, the doors shut easily, and theres a great gloss to the finish that gives the car a well-dressed look. Theres quite a bit of pearl in the final finish, so it has a glow that really looks awesome in the sunlight and highlights the 55s many unique details. A few trim pieces have been shaved to give it a cleaner look, including the hood ornament, but the traditional stainless trim on the quarters remains, offering the perfect place to break the two-tone look. And speaking of stainless, all the trim has bee polished, refinished, or replaced to really make the car sparkle. This Chevy definitely has the right look.
Inside theres a full custom interior using two-tone gray vinyl and leather to give it a more modern look. Bucket seats flank a custom center console, and with diamond-tufted inserts, they look quite upscale. Matching dark gray carpets add to the sophisticated look and LED lighting has been used throughout. A custom Budnik steering wheel lives on a polished tilt steering column, framing a full set of gauges from Classic Instruments. The factory dash trim has been replaced with a ribbon that looks like carbon-fiber and custom door panels were crafted to incorporate a full-length armrest. In the center of the dash, theres a Sony AM/FM/satellite/Bluetooth stereo that sounds pretty good, although wed argue that if youre reaching for the radio in a car like this, youre doing it wrong. The custom center console houses the shifter for the Corvette-sourced ZF 6-speed manual transmission, complete with 8-ball knob, as well as switches for the power windows, a clock, and a power outlet. A fresh headliner overhead fits well and the back seat was upholstered to match. The big trunk is neatly trimmed and provides access to the rear-mounted battery, a cut-off switch, and the wiring harness.
Power comes from a 350 cubic inch Chevrolet V8 that fits neatly in the 55s engine bay because, after all, it was designed to live there. Wearing bright chrome valve covers, a 4-barrel carburetor, long-tube headers, and a few other upgrades, its both reliable and fun to drive. Youll note a modern alternator, a giant aluminum radiator with electric fan, and both power steering and power brakes, making this Chevy easy to drive. The builder was unable to finish the installation of the A/C system, but most of the components are already in place, including a compressor and hoses already fitted to the engine, so the system should be easy enough to finish. Theres also an electronic ignition system, a smooth firewall, and plenty of polished aluminum to dress it up a bit. The 6-speed manual transmission comes from a C4 Corvette, as do most of the suspension and braking systems. The transmission offers great gear ratios as well as two overdrive gears for effortless cruising on the highway. Polished aluminum suspension components suggest a lot of care went into the build, but again, it has been driven and enjoyed along the way so it is no longer spotless. A polished stainless exhaust system gives it the right sound and you can see that the floors and rockers are in excellent condition. 17-inch polished aluminum wheels from a C5 Corvette look great and carry 235/60/17 Michelin radials all around.
A very cool build with great creativity that makes this 55 stand out on the road. The hardware is proven, making it reliable, and the combination of vintage looks and modern handling makes for a car that youll look forward to driving. A few finishing touches would make this a really first-rate cruiser, but even as it sits, it represents a whole lot of time and labor.
