Description:

6554 2020 Chevrolet Camaro Yenko/SC Stage 1 Hardtop

Yenko history dates back to 1929, the year Frank Yenko opened a dealership for selling Durant cars. After the Durant company ended in 1932, Yenko opened a Chevrolet dealership in Pennsylvania in Bentleyville in 1934. When Camaros, classifiable as a "pony car", became available in 1967, Frank's son, Don transferred Chevrolet's 427ci 425hp L72 engine, (along with other high-performance parts), into some Camaros, creating the Yenko Camaro. The 1967 & 1968 427 Camaros were so popular that, in 1969, Yenko used Chevrolet's Central Office Production Order, (COPO), system to have L72 engines installed into Chevrolet Camaros and Chevelles. The high performance and limited production of all Yenko modified cars makes them valuable and prized to collectors.

For consignment, a 2020 Chevrolet Camaro Yenko/SC Stage I hardtop, produced in limited numbers by Specialty Vehicles Engineering and producing 1,000 horsepower. This is car #04 of 25 Stage 1 examples built and was collectible on day one. It has a title verified 11,089 actual miles.

Exterior
With ten factory colors originally available on the 25 Stage I Yenkos, there can't be many in Rally Green Metallic out there. Silver Yenko stripes adorn the hood scoop and shoulder line of the car and with nine stripe options available, the combination of green and silver is rare indeed. There's no shortage of Yenko recognition and it starts with the Y-SC decal on the nose of the carbon fiber hood, Yenko written on the side, and Yenko badge out back, on the fenders, and on the grille. Clear taillights and massive quad exhaust tips are the view you'll get if you challenge this green giant, and broad shoulders over wide tires will quickly disappear in front of you. 20-inch aluminum alloy 5-spoke wheels carry 30-series Bridgestone tires with a mid late 2020 manufacturing date and through the spokes, Yenko badged red calipers shine through. Some minor scuffs, scratches, chin scrapes, and a bubble in the paint are the only imperfections we note on the exterior.

Interior
Aside from the plethora of badging which starts at the door sill plate, it's standard Camaro SS inside including the wonderfully contoured door panel with gray leather inside of injection molded black plastic, black leather padding, and an integrated storage bin. Medium Ash Gray leather sport bucket seats occupy the front and include SYC on the headrests, another holdover from classic Yenko cars. The rear 2+2 looks just as supportive and you'll want your passengers to stay planted on top of 1,000 horsepower. A Yenko badge is on the thick leather wrapped steering wheel and analog tach and speed gauge flank a row of digital displays of operational functions and temperature gauges along with an information screen. The center stack is topped by a large screen that includes the GPS display and houses an AM/FM/CD radio with XM and Bluetooth capability. A numbered Yenko plate is on the passenger side dash and the shifter is cleanly integrated into the center console wearing a clean leather boot. Gray carpet lines the floor and a molded, cloth covered gray headliner is overhead. The trunk is finished with molded panels and gray carpet. The entire interior is in like new condition with no apparent blemishes to note.

Drivetrain
SLE works their magic on a 416ci 6.8 liter LT1 V8 with an aluminum block, a 4340 forged crank, forged H-beam rods, forged 2618 pistons with squirters, CNC ported LT4 heads, and a custom grind cam. The fuel injection system is upgraded with LT4 injectors and an upgraded OEM direct injection pump. A custom, high output supercharger is spun with a 10-rib belt drive system forcing air into a throttle body that's been enlarged by 10%. Custom stainless steel headers begin the exhaust process and power disc brakes that include 6 piston front calipers and 4 piston rear calipers are employed to rein in 1,000 horses. A 10L80E 10-speed automatic transmission sends the herd to the back wheels where 3.27 gears await in a limited slip differential.

Undercarriage
Showing about 11,000 miles worth of use, the underside is very clean and the only surface rust being on that rear differential. The stainless dual exhaust system moves through high flow catalytic converters and a pair of Stainless Works mufflers before exiting under the valance. The exhaust and driveshaft occupy a tunnel that is flanked by clean belly pans that assuredly improve aerodynamics at speed. No unwanted fluids or grease build up are seen anywhere.

Drive-Ability
What feels like a normal Camaro SS on the inside suddenly changes personality when the engine comes to life and echoes through the hills of Morgantown. This bellowing beast has obvious power underfoot but performs tamely at street speeds despite the exhaust tone. Handling, braking, and of course, acceleration is up there with race car status and we weren't about to test the traction limits of the rear tires, but we can say that this car will turn the tires with ease even with the driver assists activated. As a newer car with 11,000 miles, all of the functions performed as expected and we carefully herded all 1,000 horses back to the stable. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

There's not much subtlety about this car. If you don't get the hint from the exterior styling and raucous exhaust, surely the numerous 1000 horsepower emblems on the car will impress you. SLE, formerly SLP, has had some big hits in past years, but this might be their crowning achievement. Talk about beast mode! Here is a rare opportunity to own a modern day Yenko Camaro.
